In my previous essay "Vol. 71 Artificial Intelligence," I talked about career choice in the future. In career choice, how you lead your lives and how you look at them do matter.
When we are bombarded with a large amount of information, surrounded by advanced machines and computers, we should make decisions based on what?
There could be the following six choices: (1) Follow instructions from the computer.
This option is used in the fields of stock exchange and commodity exchange. (2) Follow your religious beliefs. (3) Follow fortune telling. (4) Follow advice from an expert. (5) Do not think but just see what happens. (6) Make a decision by yourself.
Among these options, "(6) Make a decision by yourself" would be the most difficult. In the case of (1) to (4), if things turn out badly, you can avoid responsibility. However, if you make a decision by yourself, you have to take responsibility, which puts you under a lot of pressure. To withstand all this pressure, you need to have mental toughness and a consistent philosophy. One example of a consistent philosophy is personal values. In response to the question: "What is the most important thing?," there would be various answers, such as money, trust, job, and family. You need to prepare your answer by category. For example, if your answer is "peace," you should explain the details about its environment or condition.
What do you choose from the options (1) to (6)?
