I started having a question about one thing 7 or 8 years back from now. It is the average life expectancy at birth, which represents the predicted number of years of life for babies born in a given year. However, I thought people aged 65 can live longer than the published average life expectancy at birth. I told my theory to about 10 people, many of who seemed to agree with me. That is why I did a search on the Internet and found the following data about the life expectancy at birth by gender and the life expectancy by age released in 2019:
Average life expectancy at birth: 81.41 years for men : 87.45 years for women Average life expectancy at age 65: 19.83 years for men : 24.63 years for women
Based on these figures, people aged 65 are expected to live on average to;
84.83 years old (65 + life expectancy at 65 of 19.83) for men 89.63 years old (65 + life expectancy at age 65 of 24.63) for women
This means men live 3.42 years and women live 2.18 years longer than the published average life expectancy. Advancement of medical technology, development of new drugs, and improvement in nursing facilities may further prolong life. In the end, the higher the age, like 70, 75, 80, and so on, the longer the average life expectancy than the published one.
If you plan for your retirement life, you need to add the average life expectancy by age to your retirement age.
