I watch NHK World News on BS1
channel for about one hour
before going to work. Without
knowing what is going on around
the world, I do not think that
we can appropriately understand
news in Japan.
The
recent major news include the
following: (1) US-China trade
war; (2) Britain's exit from the
EU; (3) Strait of Hormuz being
targeted after Iran sanctions;
(4) Torrential rain, forest
fire, and sea level rise due to
global warming; (5) Religious
and ethnic-based terrorism,
domestic conflict, and
immigration to Europe; (6)
Cyberterrorism; (7) Food crisis
due to overpopulation; (8)
Plastic pollution; (9) Rise of
far-right populism; (10) Nuclear
disarmament between the U.S and
Russia; (11) Chinese concept of
"One Belt, One Road"; (12)
Issues over North Korea; and
(13) Worldwide widening gap
between the rich and poor.
The world is now in
chaos, and even island Japan is
no exception. From a worldwide
perspective, politics, economy,
culture, and lifestyle in Japan
look a little different.
I
hope you will try a different
view.
