Vol.34 Make Decision and Take Action Quickly.
Unlike the old times, speed is required for everything in the modern society where information has been rapidly globalized such as in computer and television technology. The society itself has also been changing, and the saying "Ten years makes an epoch" has become obsolete accordingly. "Five years makes an epoch" feels right today.

In Japan, there is an old saying "Make decisions and take action quickly," which has been timeless and used as the motto especially of many business persons. It may be such an important factor in our lives.

Meanwhile, some people have the motto: "Be deliberate in counsel, prompt in action."

When being evaluated, people are occasionally categorized into either of the following two: the "make decisions and take action quickly" person and the "be deliberate in counsel, prompt in action" person. However, I think this is wrong.

In business, you are required to "make decisions and take action quickly" when making a speedy deal or handling troubles, but to “be deliberate in counsel, prompt in action" in the basic business strategy. In other words, which of the two should be used depends on the situation. In fact, most of good managers can flexibly use both of them. I think that classifying a person into either of the two types is pointless for evaluation purposes.

After all, "making decisions and take action quickly" or "being deliberate in counsel, prompt in action" requires keen insight, as well as comprehensive knowledge and experience. If you are always "rough and ready" or "extremely prudent but do not make any actions," there would be nothing worth talking to you about.
End.
