There is a proverb similar to the title of this column "Silence is gold.," It is "Speech is silver, silence is gold." Many proverbs, including this one, were developed by old Japanese based on Chinese proverbs.
Haiku is a culture unique to Japan that delivers a message only with as few as 17 syllables (5-7-5 syllables). It requires writers to take a great leap of imagination.
However, in Japanese society based on "Silence is gold," where some extended families with three generations all live in the same house or human relations are close in local communities, this concept works only when people can put themselves in someone else's shoes or think about what others feel.
Now that there are more nuclear families and some people spend their time watching TV or playing games in private rooms, it is more difficult even for families to communicate with each other.
In view of today's situation, where people rely on internet information and are fooled by fake news, it would be impossible for us to maintain human relations based on "Silence is gold."
That is why you need to tell simply what you think and feel to others while looking at things from their point of view.
Keep in mind another proverb: "Who commends himself berates himself."
