The title of this volume is an
extraordinary famous expression
written by haiku poet Ozaki
Hosai.
At our family
reunion when I was in my 30s,
one of the members suggested
that we self-publish a biography
of our ancestor, who was a
feudal lord in the Chubu region
near the end of the Edo period.
In the end, my father decided to
take the job, and I took charge
of organizing a large number of
documents and drafting the
story.
At first, I had
trouble writing the opening of
the prologue. However, once the
phrase "People are born and die"
popped in my head when I was
relaxing during the New Year's
holiday, words started pouring
out.
It is often said
that people are born and die
alone. I know that people need
to help each other in human
society, but I came up to the
conclusion that people end up
being alone. If you accept this
and live with preparation and
commitment in human society, I
think you will get to understand
and treat people with kindness,
such as children who are
valiantly studying and adults
who are working in agony.
I have always been
interested in what philosophy of
life astronomers have. From
their point of view, about 80
years of our life could be very
short, like a microsecond or
nanosecond compared to five
million years since humans
diverged from apes or 4.6
billion years since the Earth
was formed.
That makes
me think that I will try to be
"Que Sera, Sera (Whatever Will
Be, Will Be)" whatever happens.
